- InterContinental launched its aggressive growth in the US Western Region with the February opening of InterContinental San Francisco, which joins sister property InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco.
- Other 2008 openings planned for the Western Region include InterContinental The Clement Monterey in California and InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona.

InterContinental celebrates 60 years of history.
2006
6 November – InterContinental Hotels & Resorts simultaneously launch two flagship hotels – InterContinental London Park Lane and InterContinental Boston, US.

InterContinental celebrates opening of its 150th hotel - the InterContinental, Dubai Festival City.
2008
InterContinental opens two new hotels in China in celebration of the 2008 Olympics – InterContinental Beijing Beichen as the closest luxury hotel to the National Olympics Stadium; InterContinental Qingdao within the Olympic Sailing Village.
